Simon Mignolet did not have a particularly enjoyable return to north-west England on Thursday night. The former Liverpool goalkeeper conceded five goals as Club Brugge were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.Club Brugge held United to a 1-1 draw in Belgium last week but they were powerless to prevent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side reaching the Europa League last 16 in the second leg.The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 22nd minute when Simon Deli was shown a straight red card for handling a goal-bound shot.Bruno Fernandes scored the subsequent penalty, while Odion Ighalo and Scott McTominay made it 3-0 before half-time.

Fred then netted a late double to complete the rout and ensure United would be in Friday’s Europa League last 16 draw.

Mignolet not only conceded five goals, but he was also mocked by the Old Trafford crowd after a rather unfortunate slip.

The 31-year-old fell on his backside early in the second half, much to the amusement of the home fans.

Watch it here…

The Old Trafford faithful, per Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, reacted by chanting: “Are you Gerrard in disguise?”

You’ve got to laugh.

Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip against Chelsea back in 2014 still brings a lot of joy to Liverpool’s rivals - and United fans didn’t miss their opportunity to mock the retired midfielder or his former teammate.

Still, you suspect Liverpool fans won’t be overly bothered.

Their team are the reigning European champions and they’re on the verge of winning their first league title since 1990.

They’re the best team in world football right now and the gulf in class between themselves and United is massive.

But you’ve got to take your victories where possible - however small they might be.
