We are nearly a week removed from one of the biggest fights in boxing history, but the fallout continues, and is likely to continue for some time.

Of course, we are talking about Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 2 in Las Vegas for the WBC Championship.

Everyone now knows how that fight ended, the Gypsy King absolutely battered and schooled Wilder for seven rounds before his corner threw in the towel to stop the punishment.

Wilder was visibly annoyed at his camp's decision, but you could hardly argue with them. The American was backed in the corner and getting pounded on by the Brit, who was throwing punch after punch after punch at the helpless champ.

After the towel was thrown in, it was Fury who was left celebrating in the middle of the ring as his return to the top of the heavyweight division was complete. From the highs of beating Wladimir Klitschko, to the lows of depression and then back to the high of beating Wilder.

It's truly been a remarkable story for Fury, and it's set to continue.

For Wilder, however, it's been a week of misery for the Bronze Bomber, and it looks set to continue in the weeks ahead.

In truth, though, he hasn't helped himself.

Instead of taking the defeat like a man, he's made up excuse after excuse after excuse and he's basically blamed everything and everyone bar himself.

The reality is, on the night he was outboxed by the considerably better boxer. He was miles off the pace and wasn't fit to lace Fury's gloves.

But, as we all know, it wasn't his fault. It was his costume's fault. It was his corner's fault. It was the ref's fault. Everyone but himself was to blame.

So by and large, Wilder is making excuses for his defeat to Fury and his first professional defeat in his career.

But let's never forget what the American said to reporters after he defeated Bermane Stiverne.

In case you have forgotten, Wilder said: “I tell people all the time before I fight them, I let the fighters know, l let the fans know, don’t make excuses for my wins when I win. They did just that.

Everybody’s gonna have an excuse. The thing about it is, nobody wants to hear an excuse once you lose. When you lose, you lose. Deal with it.

“But if it’s an excuse that actually occurred, keep it to yourself and amongst your team. Go back into the gym and work on that. Because people don’t wanna hear that when you lose.

"I think that’s the thing with Stiverne – he talked so much, he promised so much and didn’t deliver none of it. And for that reason, he’s bitter.

"He’s got some type of hatred towards me or whatever, but I’m gonna beat it out of him come November the 4th.”
