Neymar opens third £33m legal case against former club Barcelona

Neymar has opened a third legal case against former employers Barcelona, taking the total the 28-year-old forward is now claiming to £33 million.

According to reports in El Mundo, Neymar is hoping to claim a further £5.7 million relating to ‘contingency payments’ he had to meet personally, in order to facilitate his move from boyhood club Santos to Barcelona.

In the past, the current PSG forward has also sued the Catalan club for a series of unpaid loyalty bonuses, totalling almost £28 million.

During his time at Barcelona, Neymar established himself as one of the most lethal attackers in world football, and looked all but set to take over the mantle of the world’s best player, as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo entered the latter half of their playing career.

A series of controversies marred his time in Spain however, including his initial £50 million transfer to the European giants – which eventually led to the resignation of then-president Sandro Rosell, after the true cost was revealed to be closer to £90 million.

The fans of the club also turned on Neymar, after the Brazilian appeared to court a move to French champions PSG, who had been heavily linked for a number of years.

in 2017, after four successful years at the Nou Camp, Neymar eventually made the move to France, joining the Parisian club in a world record-smashing £197 million deal.

Controversy has followed the colourful winger however, with his new club also said to be growing tired of his controversial public antics, and apparent disregard for both his teammates and the wishes of the club.

Reports have swirled in recent months that the player himself is pining for a move back to his old club, but after this latest revelation, it appears any such move is unlikely to say the least.

Barcelona are reportedly aware of Neymar’s latest legal action, but are said to have no intention of meeting the players demands, nor do they intend to make a move for the player once the transfer window opens once again in the summer.

A near fairy-tale move to Real Madrid has also been mooted in recent years, and given Neymar’s penchant for the spectacular and controversial across his whole career, you wouldn’t bet against it coming off.
