Chelsea dropped yet more points in the race for the top four as they drew 2-2 away to Bournemouth.

Frank Lampard's side were forced to overturn a 2-1 deficit late on, Marcos Alonso scoring the second of his brace with just five minutes of normal time remaining.

It means the Blues are just four points clear of Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Alonso's equaliser won't have done much to lift the mood, which remains sombre after the Champions League first-leg 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek. That had led to even more questions about Lampard's team selections, particularly his refusal to recall Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The world's most expensive goalkeeper had been dropped after a string of errors and hasn't played since the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last month. Lampard, on the one hand, deserves credit for making such a bold call.

However, there were serious doubts about whether Willy Caballero was of the calibre necessary to replace him.

The Argentine is no stranger to a howler himself.

In recent weeks, the stopper may have acquitted himself *reasonably* well, but he has still failed to keep a single clean sheet - a run which continues after the visit to the Vitality Stadium.

Many Chelsea fans will have been expecting Kepa's return, especially after the result against Bayern.

After all, since the Spaniard's exile, his side have let in 11 goals in six games and have now managed just one win in their last five.

Their only league victory in that time came in the 2-1 win over Tottenham and that in itself was abetted by an extremely poor performance from their rivals.

Aside from that, they have dropped points against Leicester and Bournemouth and suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United.

Now to be fair to Caballero, there have been various factors at play and the defence in front of him hasn't been good enough. On paper, it still doesn't look good.

Will Lampard finally turn to Kepa again for Tuesday's FA Cup tie against Liverpool?
