Liverpool's hopes of going the entire Premier League season unbeaten are over.

The Reds saw their dreams of emulating the Invincibles dashed in a 3-0 thrashing by Watford at Vicarage Road.

Ismaila Sarr (2) and Troy Deeney got the goals to give the relegation-threatened Hornets a vital boost in their battle for survival.

Nigel Pearson's side deserve enormous credit, but they'll be well aware that it's their opponents who will be making up most of the headlines after they were stunned for the first time in the 2019/20 campaign.

Even the most gifted crystal ball gazers cannot possibly have seen that coming. That said, for Liverpool fans, there was a familiar theme as they remembered for the first time since January 2019 what losing a league game feels like.

Unfortunately, Dejan Lovren was once again taking plenty of flak on social media. Troy Deeney even singled him out in his post-match interview as he described how easily he had found battling against the centre-back.

Joe Gomez's injury had meant the Croatian returned to the starting line-up and some have noticed a pattern emerging.

Whether it's by sheer unfortunate coincidence (many will tell you it's no coincidence at all), Lovren has been present for nearly all of Liverpool's defeats over the past couple of years.

In reverse order, let's take a look:

2019/20

29 February 2020 - Watford 3-0 Liverpool

2018/19

1 May 2019 - Barcelona 3-0 Liverpool (Champions League)

7 January 2019 - Wolves 2-1 Liverpool (FA Cup)

3 January 2019 - Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool

28 November 2018 - PSG 2-1 Liverpool (Champions League)

26 September 2018 - Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea (EFL Cup)

2017/18

26 May 2018 - Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool 1 (Champions League final)

6 May 2018 - Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

2 May 2018 - Roma 4-2 Liverpool

10 March 2018 - Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

22 October 2017 - Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Liverpool

Guilty as charged, we're afraid, Dejan.

Lovren hasn't helped himself during his time at Liverpool with some of his comments. It's not all that long ago he was claiming to be the best defender in the world, a view he's mysteriously gone quiet on since Virgil van Dijk's arrival at the club.

Maybe that result in Hertfordshire wasn't such a shock after all...
