Liverpool's remarkable unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end on Saturday evening in a shock 3-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road.Their run spanned 44 games and they had won 26 of their opening 27 English top-flight games to start the 2019/20 season. But goals from Ismaïla Sarr (2) and Troy Deeney (1) condemned them to defeat.Despite that loss, their remarkable winning streak means that they will still be considered as one of the greatest sides that have ever graced English football. One team that they've been compared to is Manchester United's treble winning side in the 1998/99 season.Liverpool have already matched their feat in the Premier League. United won the title with 79 points that season, while Jurgen Klopp's side managed to accumulate that total in just 26 games. But, away from England's top-flight, Liverpool have been nowhere near as dominant as Sir Alex Ferguson's side.United's historic side played 63 times that season and they only tasted defeat on five occasions. Two of those defeats came against Arsenal; one in the Community Shield and one in the Premier League. They also tasted defeat in the league to Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough and also lost to Spurs in the League Cup.Liverpool have played 45 games this season, 18 fewer times than United, but they've already racked up the same amount of losses.Jurgen Klopp's side lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield, Watford in the Premier League and Aston Villa in the League Cup.They've also tasted defeat twice in the Champions League, against Napoli and Atletico Madrid.

What makes United's record of only five losses in 63 games is the fact that they had to play Barcelona twice, Bayern Munich three times, Juventus twice and Inter Milan twice in the Champions League.

They also had to defeat Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle to win the FA Cup.

Of course, they also capped off a remarkable season with the treble.

Liverpool have a minimum of 12 games remaining that season, in which they'll have to play Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Chelsea both home and away, Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Everton at Goodison Park.

Tougher tasks will also await in the Champions League should they be able to overturn their one-goal deficit.

It seems almost inevitable that they will end the season with more losses than that United side.

You can argue which team was better out of Liverpool's current side and United's treble winners. But the record of losses is one argument that looks favourably on Ferguson's side.
