They’re probably not going to finish in the top four of the Premier League. They couldn’t even win the Emirates Cup, losing to Lyon back in July.

In fact, the moments that have left Arsenal supporters the happiest this season haven’t had anything to do with their on-pitch results.

Instead it’s been Liverpool’s defeat to Watford, former player Serge Gnabry scoring against Chelsea and Tottenham, Pepe dribbling past Virgil van Dijk and their gorgeous kits.

Deep down, Arsenal fans will know that they are some way off competing for the title right now.

They are a staggering 42 points behind Liverpool and any plans they have of returning to the top will take many years to complete.

There’s uncertainty surrounding the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil, two of their premier players, and they still don’t have the finances required to match their rivals in the transfer window.

So it’s no wonder that they enjoy looking back on the 2003/04 season, the last time they were champions of England.
