Khabib suggested in an interview that the Irishman gets to decide his opponents and that he had an ‘easy fight’ against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
Dana White has now responded to these claims in an interview with TMZ Sports. The American said:
“Conor McGregor does not handpick his opponents… McGregor has fought anybody that we have asked him to fight and who has been available.”
White was also asked about Khabib’s suggestion that McGregor had an easy fight against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. He responded by saying:
“They hate each other. If you think that you’re going to do an interview with Khabib and he’s going to say great things about Conor McGregor… it is never going to happen. And if you interview Conor, he’s never going to say great things about Khabib.”
Khabib and McGregor have a long rivalry in the UFC, which involves backstage altercations and even a public bus attack. McGregor threw a hand truck at Khabib’s crew bus and was subsequently charged with assault and criminal mischief.
The pair fought at UFC 229 back in October 2018, with ‘The Eagle’ winning via a fourth-round submission.
When asked about a potential rematch between the fighters, which would be huge for UFC fans around the world, Dana White said it could happen if Khabib can first overcome Tony Ferguson.
“Yeah. Khabib, if he wins. But I don’t know if Conor wants to wait for him. We will see what happens. Conor might not wait.”
Khabib will fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 in April in a highly-anticipated bout. The pair have previously been scheduled to fight on four different occasions but the events have been cancelled for various reasons.
If Khabib beats Ferguson, then it looks like a rematch against McGregor could be on their cards. Their rivalry seems to be as intense as ever, as shown by Khabib suggesting McGregor’s win against Donald Cerrone was ‘easy’.News Now - Sport News
