Manchester United and Everton drew 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in controversial circumstances.David de Gea's early mistake saw Everton take the lead after just three minutes. He took far too long to clear his lines and his clearance cannoned off Dominic Calvert-Lewin and into the net.Man United brushed themselves down from the early set-back and equalised half-an-hour later through Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder fired in a shot from 25 yards out that should have easily been saved. But Jordan Pickford let his effort squirm between his body and into the net.Pickford atoned for his error by making a fantastic double-save late on, while De Gea's smart save moments later made it look as if the game would end all-square.But then Calvert-Lewin thought he had struck the winner. His left-footed strike hit Harry Maguire, deceived De Gea and found its way into the corner. That led to jubilant scenes around Goodison Park but that all turned to despair when it was ruled out by VAR.Although he did not touch the ball, Gylfi Sigurdsson was ruled to have been interfering with play and the goal was ruled out for offside.Watch it below:

Wow. That's a massive call that has gone United's way.

Sigurdsson was in an offside position but it's unlikely that he was interfering with De Gea's eye-sight.

The Spanish goalkeeper had already moved the other direction in reaction to Calvert-Lewin's shot and likely would not have been able to do anything about the deflection.

Ultimately, the goal was disallowed, much to the dismay of Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian manager vented his frustration to the officials at full-time and was shown a red card.

That disallowed goal means Man United remain in fifth and are now three points behind Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot.

Everton are five points back in 11th.
