Eddie Hearn believes Andy Ruiz would 'tear Deontay Wilder to pieces' if they were to go head to head.

The dust has not long settled in the wake of Wilder’s dismantling by the reigning ‘Gypsy King’ and new WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Fans have now turned their attention to a potential and much-anticipated unification bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua in a fight that would see the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn is pushing hard for a fight between Fury and Joshua and wants a deal to be struck as soon as possible; however, with Wilder afforded the option to cash in on a rematch clause, we may be waiting for some time to see a new undisputed champion.

Hearn is trying to sway public desire to make way for a Fury Joshua showdown and has this week caused controversy claiming that a better fight for Wilder right now would be against former champion Andy Ruiz Jr.

In an interview with ‘Behind the Gloves’, Hearn stated:

“I can’t wait for Andy Ruiz to come back.

“The fight's between Ruiz and Wilder…watching Wilder the other night, Ruiz would tear Wilder to pieces.

“He’s got a great chin. He’s got fast hands; he’s going to back you up. Ruiz against Luis Ortiz. Ruiz against Dillian Whyte. These are great, great fights.”

We last saw Ruiz in a devastating defeat against AJ last December in which he dropped all the belts back to the 6ft 6' Brit.

Speculation grew after the Ruiz defeat - much around his physique and whether or not he was in 'ring shape'.

Ruiz has since sacked his trainer slamming him suggesting he was unprofessional in preparation and approach to the rematch against AJ.

Ruiz did, however, tune in to watch the ‘Gypsy King’ in action last week and suggests he would be keen to fight the British heavyweight in the future.

Ruiz stated:

“I think Tyson Fury did an amazing job.

“I was really shocked because I thought Deontay Wilder was going to win. I just want a shot with Tyson Fury as well.”
