Rio Ferdinand has joined the likes of of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger in eulogising about Manchester United no.1 Edwin van der Sar.

After the 40-year-old's man-of-the-match display against Arsenal last weekend, Wenger hailed Van der Sar as "one of the best goalkeepers in the world" while United boss Fergie has been constant with his praise of the Dutchman.

Van der Sar is set to hang up his gloves at the end of the season after an illustrious career and Ferdinand has hailed his teammate as the finest stopper he has ever had the pleasure to play with.

“Without a doubt, he is the best goalkeeper I’ve played with,” the England captain told United's official website. “He’s been brilliant for United since the day he arrived. To be honest, he’s changed my thinking when it comes to goalkeepers.

"If I ever become a manager, then I’ll be looking for my goalkeeper to exhibit as many of Edwin’s traits as possible.

“You need to be good with both feet and calm under pressure, which Edwin excels at. He’s also a great communicator with his defenders. The other thing to remember is that he always performs when he’s called upon.”
