Speculation is mounting that Barcelona are a ‘stone’s throw’ away from offering Harry Redknapp a price for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

Metro is reporting that Barcelona are planning to swoop in and steal the winger before he can even view offers from European giants Manchester United and Inter Milan.

Inter Milan were connected with Bale at the start of the year, but Inter CEO Ernesto Paollilo and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp rubbished the rumours, with Paollilo saying “it is not true”.

Redknapp told fans that he would be holding on to the star no matter who wanted him. According to reports, the Spurs manager put the record fee of £50 million over Bale’s head in order to intimidate any other clubs from making offers.

But Barcelona are said to be willing to spend that on the 21 year old and then some. Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said of Bale in a recent interview, “Gareth is certainly an interesting player - he has typical features that make him set for a league like La Liga.”

Bale was rather reserved on the matter of his future plans, telling Metro, “At the moment I'm happy at Tottenham. The truth is I can not discuss this matter. I'm enjoying the football here and I hope to improve.”
