Billy Gilmour nutmegs Fabinho during sensational performance in Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool

Remember that name: Billy Gilmour.

Featuring in Chelsea’s first team for his most significant game yet, the young Scotsman earned Man of the Match in the Blues’ 2-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Liverpool.

The Reds made seven changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Watford, but still named a reasonably strong team.

With Neil Critchley no longer at the club, Jurgen Klopp was forced to debase himself by returning to the dugout for what he may not consider to be the most important of competitions. The Liverpool boss must have been perplexed as he watched Gilmour bossing the midfield and repeatedly getting the better of Fabinho.

That will have come as no surprise to many within Chelsea, however, who have been privately buoyed by watching Gilmour at youth level. Frank Lampard evidently felt it was time to give him another opportunity and he seized it with both hands.

Willian and Ross Barkley got the goals, the first coming with a massive helping hand from Reds’ back-up goalkeeper Adrian.

Former Evertonian Barkley then scored a fine goal after running straight down the middle.

Chelsea were good value for their lead throughout, constantly peppering Adrian’s goal with shot after shot. Yet amidst all that, Gilmour stood out as he got right in Liverpool’s faces from the off.

The 18-year-old battled harder than anyone else, making two tackles, winning all of his aerial duels, creating a chance and managing one interception too.

Alan Shearer described him as “magnificent” in the BBC studio afterwards. Ian Wright added that he “deserved all the plaudits”, while Gary Lineker hailed his performance as “astonishing’.

A particular highlight was his nutmeg on Fabinho. The Brazilian had a bit of a disasterclass, if truth be told, giving the ball away for Willian’s opener and generally finding himself dominated by his teenage Chelsea counterpart.

Check out that skill below:

Chelsea fans could not get enough of the midfielder:

Jorginho is suspended for the next two league games, which could give Gilmour a great opportunity to step up.

Lampard has been given some serious food for thought.
