England and Manchester City striker Ellen White has said she still thinks about how VAR impacted the Lionesses' World Cup.
Ahead of the SheBelieves Cup, she was referring to the last time England played against the USWNT, losing 2-1 after White's equalizer was disallowed when VAR found her to be marginally offside.
“I do sit at home at night and say: ‘Ahhh, I just can’t stand VAR.’ My husband will say the same thing. It’s frustrating,” said White according to The Guardian. She added: “I still get a lot of people saying stuff about VAR. It really irritates me. But it is what it is, that’s just football.”
With the addition of VAR to the Premier League White says it is something that she can't escape. She isn't all critical of it, however: “To be honest the game’s been crying out for something. There’s always going to be talking points and criticisms. Hopefully, it will be in favour of the striker.”
England faces the USA for the first time since the World Cup on Thursday in the SheBelieves Cup in Orlando where they will start the defence of their title and White is up for the challenge.
“We are really excited to play them and obviously the intensity levels and competitiveness of playing the US is always really high,” she explained. “We’re a competitive group and we want to win. We haven’t shied away from saying that.”
Fellow Lioness Rachel Daly echoed White's excitement for the match. She said: “We have no reason to really back off from them where maybe in the past we have.
“I don’t think anyone in the group is like: ‘We aren’t as good as them’ – we know we are. We know what we did in the World Cup and it is a bit of a revenge game for us, we want to go out there and beat all the teams, not just the US.”
