Two FAWSL clubs are reported to have their sights set on Denmark international and VfL Wolfsburg striker Pernille Harder.
SportBuzzer in Germany reports that Chelsea is willing to pay up to €300,000 for the striker. Harder's contract with the Frauen Bundesliga club is up next summer.
The fact that Manchester City striker Pauline Bremer has announced that she is moving to Wolfsburg – the German league champions – at the end of the season has added to speculation of Harder's departure as it could leave both competing for a spot in the starting line up.
Harder has played for the German side since 2017 when she left Linköpings FC in Sweden. A move to Chelsea would mean she would be able to play alongside her girlfriend, Sweden's Magdalena Eriksson who is a defender at the club.
It could also leave Harder, who was a runner up for BBC Women's Footballer of the Year in 2019, fighting for a place in the starting 11 with Sam Kerr and Beth England both high profile strikers already playing for the team. The prospect of more time on the bench for Harder could make a move to the London club less desirable.
The second club rumoured to be interested in Harder is Manchester United, something that fans have shown their support for with the hashtag #Harder2020. A move to Casey Stoney's side would mean Harder would give up the chance to play in the Champions League, at least for next season.
Harder reportedly has a release clause in her contract – something the German club refuses to comment on – but should Manchester United be willing to pay that, the team could attract the striker.
If Chelsea did pay €300,000 for Harder it could be a huge moment for the women's game, following on from Sam Kerr's unknown price tag that is thought to be at least six figures.
A recent Fifa survey found that in 2019 96.3% of women's international moves were free transfers with $652,032 spent on a total of 833 player moves.
