Jamie Carragher | January 2002

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher received a £40,000 fine and a three-match ban after he threw a coin towards Arsenal supporters in an FA Cup contest against Arsenal in 2002.

Carragher had been stamped on by Dennis Bergkamp, who was sent off, when Arsenal supporters directed their anger towards the centre-back, with one fan throwing a coin towards him.

Carragher was sent off by referee Mike Riley and later apologised for his behaviour, although he avoided legal charges.

Craig Bellamy | September 2009

Craig Bellamy shoved a pitch invader in the face during Manchester City’s 4-3 defeat to rivals Manchester United.

The fan, Jake Clarke, was banned from attending football matches for three years following the incident.

Clarke was a Man United fan and he told officers he “just wanted to celebrate with the players” following Michael Owen’s late winner for United.

Eric Cantona | January 1995

The images of Cantona leaping into the crowd and kicking Simmons remain iconic to this day.

The pair then traded punches before the Man United forward was hauled away. Cantona was fined £200,000 by the Red Devils and banned from football for nine months.

Dida | October 2004

A Celtic fan ran onto the pitch at Parkhead and playfully slapped AC Milan goalkeeper Dida on the shoulder after Scott McDonald’s winner in the Champions League, causing the Brazilian to theatrically fall to the ground.

Celtic were handed a £25,000 fine from UEFA while Dida was given a two-match ban for playacting.

Derek Riordan | May 2009

Riordan scored a late winner for Hibernian against Hearts and was confronted by an angry Hearts fan on the pitch.

Referee Steve Conroy quickly came to help the Hibs forward by getting between him and the fan.

Neil Lennon | May 2011

Lennon’s playing days were behind him when a Hearts supporter attempted to attack him on the touchline while he was the manager of Celtic.

Police managed to get to the fan, John Wilson, before he could land a serious punch.

A case of assault against Wilson was surprisingly found not proven at court, but he was jailed for breach of the peace.

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvardo was sent off after he scissor-kicked a drunk fan who tried to attack him during a Dutch Cup game against Ajax.

The ‘keeper left the hooligan on the ground and aimed a few more blows his way before security guards intervened.

Gordon Strachan | December 1981

Strachan was attacked by a Celtic fan during a match for Aberdeen - almost three decades before he would manage the Hoops.

The Scottish winger was attacked by the fan after scoring a penalty at Pittodrie.
