WWE has released a statement regarding the status of WrestleMania 36 in Tampa later this year following concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

The coronavirus has now reached several countries around the world including the United States, and some cases have even been reported in the Tampa area.

Tampa will also be playing host to WrestleMania 36 on April 5 later this year, so there are some concerns that the event may be cancelled for health and safety reasons.

All around the world, governments are debating whether or not to put a ban on large gatherings, such as sporting events like WrestleMania, in order to control and delay the peak of the virus outbreak until they’re ready to battle it.

With multiple cases of the coronavirus confirmed by the CDC in the Tampa area, WWE has released a statement to ESPN commenting on the status of WrestleMania 36.

WWE noted that the health and safety of fans, superstars and employees is their top priority and they’re monitoring the situation closely, but as of writing, WrestleMania will still be going ahead later this year in April.

"The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay.

"We remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, and like other entertainment properties in the U.S., there are currently no plans to cancel or postpone our upcoming events."

The CDC has confirmed at least two people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Tampa area and hundreds of others are being monitored.

Large gatherings have already been postponed or altered to keep fans out of stadiums in countries that have been hit the hardest, including Japan and Italy, in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus.

However, as of writing, precautionary alterations to scheduled large gatherings have not become widespread in the United States.

Fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that WrestleMania 36 can still go ahead, but the health and safety of everyone at the event must the top priority.
