‘Call of Duty: Mobile’ has been considered one of the biggest advancements of iOS and Android game technology ever, but it is expected to lose a fan-favourite mode.
The dark and addictive zombie mode that has become a staple of the franchise since its inception in ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ is set to be axed from the popular mobile edition.
“We had always mentioned that it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future,” wrote developer Timi Studios in a recent community update.
“However, the mode just didn’t reach the level of quality we desire.”
Moreover, the studio have decided that they will not be releasing Nacht Der Untoten, the second zombie map it had been working on, globally.
However, there is still hope that both may be reinstalled into the game in the foreseeable future.
“We may bring the mode back, with Nacht Der Untoten, once we can make sure it is high enough quality,” said Timi.
The timing of this announcement can be considered as everything but coincidental following Jason Blundell’s recent departure from the franchise and co-developer Treyarch.
Blundell was believed to have had a close affiliation to the game mode, having served as producer on ‘Black Ops 3’ and ‘Black Ops 4’, overseeing the development of the mode.
With the mode getting chopped very, very soon, it’s a must that everyone makes the most of the gritty zombie mode as no-one is to know how long fans will have to wait to destroy the undead from their phones.
