Liverpool have turned their attention to Spanish international defender Nacho Monreal to end a long search to fill the space in their left back position.

According to the Daily Mail, the 26 year old was linked to Liverpool and Arsenal towards the end of last year fover a possible January signing.

However, Monreal, who plays for La Liga outfit Osasuna, injured his knee in December.

Monreal returned to action in February, and has put in some very strong performances, with speculation growing that Liverpool are hoping to secure the player in the summer.

Liverpool’s director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, was spotted watching Monreal playing for Osasuna against Racing Santander in a 3-1 La Liga win last week, and sources say he was impressed with Monreal’s performance.

Osasuna are currently in the bottom half of the La Liga table, and a move to a top flight English club is said to be at the forefront of Monreal’s mind.
