Rio Ferdinand shocked by fan claiming that Jack Grealish would reject Man Utd transfer

Rio Ferdinand was left stunned by a Manchester United fan who phoned into talkSPORT to claim that the Red Devils have zero chance of signing Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window.

Grealish, 24, has been in stunning form for Aston Villa this season despite the Midlands club sitting in 19th position in the Premier League table.

Dean Smith’s men, however, did reach the Carebao Cup final where they narrowly lost to Manchester City.

Even if the Villans escape the drop this season, there is widespread acceptance they are likely to lose their captain, with United reportedly leading the chase for his signature.

The Sun have claimed that United are willing to pay £60 million to sign Grealish, and offer the playmaker £150,000 a week, but a Red Devils supporter told talkSPORT that he does not believe Grealish would sign if Villa stay up.

“I think we have to set realistic targets for next season,” the fan revealed to talkSPORT following United’s 3-0 win over Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round.

“I’ll tell you right now, we will not get Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and we will not get James Maddison from Leicester City.

“They will go on to go to much better clubs than Manchester United, there is absolutely no appeal of Man United at the moment.”

Strong words from this apparent die-hard United supporter, who had a suspiciously Brummie-sounding accent. He went on to say:

“Aston Villa are a massive club and it is Jack Grealish’s boyhood club, why would he want to leave for us? We’re a mid-table team at the moment. We’ve got to accept that.

“It’s toxic at Man United at the moment and I think we need to set realistic transfer targets, get some bargains, I’d have a pop at Danny Ings.”

United legend Ferdinand couldn’t quite believe his ears and slammed the fan as a ‘loon’ as he responded via Twitter.

“What am I hearing from the caller on talkSPORT,” he wrote.

“He doesn’t think Jack Grealish would leave Villa for United! #loon”

As well as Grealish, United are also rumoured to be interested in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison and Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho.

Should Ed Woodward offload Paul Pogba in the summer as expected, funds will be available for the club to make a run at the highly rated English trio.
