Liverpool keeper Alisson ruled out of both Atletico Madrid and Bournemouth ties

Atletico Madrid v Liverpool FC - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the Reds’ clash with Bournemouth on Saturday and also won’t be fit to face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday after suffering a hip injury.

The 27-year-old picked up the muscle injury in training before Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Klopp is unsure how long his No 1 between the sticks will be out for, but said ‘for sure’ he won’t be available for the next two games.

“Unfortunately, Ali is out,” said Klopp, per Liverpool FC.

“He had a little incident in training before the Chelsea game. We all thought it was nothing and it was clear he would not play anyway; the plan was he was on the bench.

“There we thought, ‘Come on, we don’t have to take any risks’ so left him out the squad. There was a scan the next day and they found something. So now he is out. Next week he is out for sure, and then we will see."

On the specific nature of the injury, the German added: “Muscle, slight, in the hip region.”

The Athletic reporter James Pearce also confirmed the alarming news via his Twitter page.

Adrian will deputise for Alisson for the time being, which may concern the Liverpool faithful, as the Spaniard produced a howler on Tuesday night against Chelsea when he failed to keep out a routine effort from Willian.

However, Liverpool have won 10 of the 14 matches Adrian has started this season, while Bournemouth have lost 10 of their last 12 away games in all competitions, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue for The Reds.

It is far from ideal against Atleti, though. A single away goal from Los Rojiblancos means Liverpool will have to score three on Wednesday, which may be beyond their reach.
