As valued opinions go in boxing, Floyd Mayweather is the person to go to when it comes to knowing who is ready to be the next big thing.
As two Brits in Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua hold five major belts between them, Mayweather suggests that the next heavyweight champion of the world will not be from the US or the UK.
“There’s going to be a heavyweight who is not from the UK and not from the US who is going to make a lot of noise. Everybody remember that, mark it down”, he said.
Now, there are plenty of fighters from around the world that are ready to make noise at the top level of boxing, so here are the top contenders that have been suggested by the Daily Mail.
Of course, you've got the obvious options such as Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin and Joseph Parker, but the Daily Mail have looked further afield and have identified potential hidden gems in the division that could become a force to be reckoned with.
Arslanbek Makhmudov
This Russian is arguably the closest to disrupting the hierarchy of boxing.
This is down to him knocking out all 10 opponents who stood in his way, seven of them in the first round.
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, as well as weighing 260lbs, he could even intimidate the likes of Fury and AJ.
Adam Kownacki
This 30-year-old is the most established on the list, boasting a respectable reputation in the US.
Beating respectable fighters including Artur Szpilka and Chris Arreola during his professional career, he will no doubt be sniffing out a more competitive fight in the not too distant future.
Daniel Dubois
The rawest boxer on the list at only 22, but don’t let his age fool you as he has already chalked up 14 impressive victories in his short career.
Even Tyson Fury, who sparred with him a few years ago, has declared him the future of the heavyweight division.
A high ceiling indeed for this young boxer.
Michael Hunter
The American, who was left stunned at the decision in his draw to Alexander Povetkin in December, is looking to move on and win his next fight outright.
Hunter has been tipped to be in a position to fight for titles following a couple of potential wins this year.
Filip Hrgovic
This Croatian has had such an impressive start to his professional career, winning all of his 10 fights, including a knockout against former world title challenger Eric Molina.
Having plenty more time to prove his worth professionally, he will no doubt be challenging for belts in the near future.
Ivan Dychko
Dychko has an interesting past with the man holding three heavyweight belts currently Anthony Joshua.
The two squared off in the 2012 Olympics semis where a questionable decision meant that the Kazakh went crashing out of the London Olympics, where he eventually went on to bag himself a bronze medal.
He is no doubt looking for revenge with AJ and will most likely happen sooner rather than later.
Frank Sanchez
Now Sanchez has enough prowess to be included in this list purely down to the fact that he hails from Cuba, however, his record is impressive enough.
His amateur record standing at 214-6, including a win over Erislandy Savon, who also narrowly lost to Joshua in the 2012 Olympics.
Since turning pro, he has tallied 14 straight victories which include 11 knockouts. He is certainly one to watch.
Efe Ajagba
Originally from Nigeria and 2014 Commonwealth bronze medallist, this 25-year-old has amassed 12 victories, with 10 knockouts.
Another one to watch no doubt.
