As the precautions surrounding coronavirus continues, so does its effect on the sporting world.

First, the Premier League revealed that they would consider banning anyone over the age of 70 from attending game, prompting considerable cause for concern for Roy Hodgson. Then, and more recently, they prohibited shaking hands before the game.

Now though, in its latest development, powerhouses of the sports broadcasting world Sky and BT Sport have revealed that they may be forced to showcase Premier League matches completely free of charge to everyone if the game is played behind closed doors due to the virus.

A report from The Times claims that they are likely to be urged to make certain matches free-to-air. A host of the major subscription TV channels will attend a meeting with football, tennis, cricket and rugby officials on Monday to review and attempt to resolve the issue. Although, all are convinced they will be asked to broadcast games free of charge.

The meeting will be hosted by the government; it is strongly believed that playing Premier League games behind closed doors is becoming a possibility. It might be that a season ticket will only get you a seat on your own sofa.

Actions are already taking place too. The Sun reported that the division’s chiefs have already sent letters to ensure all the Premier League teams that supporters may be turned away from matches if they see fit.

It isn’t just the English Premier League that has been affected either. The Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora revealed that the government are likely to issue a ban on supporters of all ages attending matches in an attempt to prevent the spread.

In France, PSG’s Ligue 1 away visit to Strasbourg was postponed. No details have been given as to when the rearranged fixture might be taking place.

Planning for more long-term events such as Wimbledon and England Test cricket have also commenced.
