Chelsea fans have plenty of reasons to look forward to the 2020/21 season. This past week has typified how the Blues have exceeded expectations throughout what’s meant to be a transition period in Frank Lampard’s first year in charge at Stamford Bridge.Chelsea knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup on Tuesday to march into the quarter-finals, then Tammy Abraham became the first man to win the Premier League and Young Player of the Year awards in the same season two days later.Lampard’s men are currently fourth on the Premier League table, two points clear of their nearest rivals for Champions League qualification with a home game against Everton still to play on Sunday. In Europe, their chances of overcoming a 3-0 deficit in the away leg of their last 16 tie against Bayern Munich are slim at best. Even so, it’s difficult to imagine the campaign will be looked back on with anything but positivity come May.But although that positivity should translate to optimism for next season, one particular matter appears to be bothering Chelsea fans. There has been no end of speculation regarding what the Blues’ 2020/21 kits will look like after telecommunications company ‘3’ was confirmed as their new shirt sponsor. Most supporters don’t have high hopes ahead of any official reveal, but if a reported leaked third kit is anything like the real deal, their concerns are definitely justified.Footy Headlines have published images of the apparent new shirt, and it’s safe to say that those who’ll be expected to buy it are far from impressed.Featuring a bizarre combination of red and blue stripes that fade into an all-red bottom half, it wouldn’t be out of place in the Crystal Palace club shop.Check out the reported design and some of the feedback from Chelsea fans…

There’s a fine line between daring and disastrous when it comes to kit designs, and this definitely qualifies as the latter.

Striking a balance between eye-catching and sensible is a tricky job, but dressing up the Blues in a red shirt was never likely to be well-received.

If the leaked image of the third kit does turn out to be accurate, at least Chelsea won’t be wearing it every other week.
