Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero finally came to blows in the wee hours of Sunday morning in Las Vegas. The build-up to the highly anticipated matchup was nothing short of brilliant, with some epic dingdong battles gracing the Octagon before the pair took to the canvas themselves.Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk lit up the night with a spectacularly brutal bout that just about brought the house down before the main event even had a chance to get going. However, from then on in, it was all about Adesanya and Romero.Adesanya did not disappoint with his entrance, arriving on the scene on a path of rose petals laid down by the ladies on his flanks.Romero was more low-key but no less exciting, however, it was the action in the cage that everyone wanted to see. Both men came out all guns blazing in what was a fierce battle from the onset but the fight soon settled into a routine. In truth, it evolved into a very low action affair with Romero resorting to some interesting antics in a bid to force his opponent into making a mistake.

Ultimately, it became a very tactical tussle with the referee even stepping in and urging the combatants to "give the judges something to score."

In the end, the fight went the distance and it was the Nigerian who narrowly secured a points win over Romero.

Twitter was awash with disappointed fans who felt that the fight had been somewhat of an anticlimax.

Other than an unintentional eye-poke from Adesanya early on, there was very little to write home about and you can't help but feel that the night will be remembered for the almighty battle between the ladies before the main event.

All eyes now turn to the upcoming fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson on April 19.

We can only hope that fight lives up to its billing.
