Awarded ‘Fight of the Night’ for obvious reasons, the absolute war between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk is already being hailed as one of the greatest fights between female competitors in UFC history. The fight went the distance with Weili retaining her strawweight title through split-decision after she had dealt an abundance of damage to her opponent, as well as taking some heavy shots herself. The five-round brawl led to both women being rushed to hospital straight after leaving the Octagon, but this wasn’t before Jedrzejczyk delivered a post-fight interview where viewers could really take in the extent of the damage Weili had caused. In the third round retaining champ, Weili caught Joanna with a collection of powerful blows which left Joanna with a huge swelling to the side of her forehead, known as a haematoma, which is a solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues, nasty. While speaking in her post-fight interview Joanna told Joe Rogan: "From the third round, the swellness was bothering me and I felt it was just getting more and more swollen and my head was like going on and off. But all good. Congrats, Zhang, and I'm very happy we gave you a good fight."Whilst speaking in the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White dismissed any talk of a rematch between the two, he explained to the press:"Did you see what those two girls looked like after that fight?"They're both in the hospital right now," White continued with: "They did not go to a press conference, they did not talk to the press, they both went straight to the hospital.”

Before stating that the focus was on both fighters to gain a full recovery first. "They need to go home, take time to heal up and everything else before I even mention a fight with either one of them again."

The UFC president did, however, reveal that he believed the pair had put on an “incredible fight” and also told the press that he had spoken to the pair, telling the press in attendance:

“I talked to both of them, and I was just saying what an incredible fight. I couldn't tell them enough how incredible both of them were."

After the pair put on an absolute war in the Octagon and fans left clambering for more, hopefully, one day we shall see Weili and Jedrzejczyk meet again in the caged walls of the Octagon.
