Barcelona were far from their best but managed to scrape a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday evening. The Catalan giants failed to break the deadlock for 80 minutes but VAR came to their rescue late on.Nothing was initially given when the ball hit Robin Le Normand on top of the arm.It was certainly not intentional, nor was it clear and obvious. Arturo Vidal was also offside in the build-up, leading to many thinking that Sociedad should have been given a free-kick instead. But VAR did not agree and decided to give Barcelona the penalty. And Lionel Messi made no mistake as he dispatched his effort past Alejandro Remiro Gargallo.Weirdly, La Liga's official English Twitter account appeared to be very happy with Messi's goal. After Messi saw a first-half effort fly over the bar, La Liga tweeted, followed by an alien emoji: "Can Messi find the breakthrough for @FCBarcelona? 👽"

So when he actually did late on, La Liga decided to 'celebrate' that they were right.

"WE TOLD YOU", they tweeted enthusiastically.

No mention of the VAR controversy or anything. Just La Liga seemingly very happy with Messi putting Barcelona ahead.

And football fans, rightfully, called La Liga out for their reaction to Messi's goal.

Quique Setien credited VAR for giving them all three points.

“We knew it would be a difficult game, as Sociedad are in good form, with six straight wins,” he told Marca after the game, per Football-Espana.

“We did create chances to score, and showed quality at times. But in the end we have through thanks to VAR.”

That goal took Barcelona back to the top of La Liga and two points above Real Madrid.

Los Blancos will have the opportunity to leapfrog their fierce rivals once again when they travel to Real Betis on Sunday evening.
