After recently departing WWE and seemingly on his way to AEW, Matt Hardy has revealed he would love to have a match against Kenny Omega.

Matt Hardy became a free agent last week after he allowed his contract with WWE to expire without renewing it.

Hardy announced on his YouTube channel that he was weighing up his options and taking a look at all wrestling promotions around the world before committing to a specific one.

He didn’t rule out a return to WWE, but wrestling fans received the biggest indication that he will be joining AEW when Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks made a surprise appearance in a video on his YouTube channel.

When it comes to who he would like to face inside the squared circle before he calls it a day on his wrestling career, Hardy said in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated that he would love to face Kenny Omega.

Hardy said: "I have a few great wrestling matches left in me, and I feel like one of those is with Kenny Omega. I'd love to have a one-on-one match with him. Hopefully, that will happen down the road."

Hardy said he has been speaking with AEW about possibly signing with them, but he has also been speaking with other wrestling promotions as well.

He said: "I am speaking with AEW, and I am very close with the Young Bucks. We've been great friends for a long time. They understand this business and know how to break the fourth wall and have fun with all of this. They really are special.

"I've also spoken with Impact and I spoke with the NWA. I had great conversations just this week with Triple H about NXT. I'm not sure where I'm going to go.

“From a character perspective, I want to go to an Arcadia. That's where I can take the second coming of 'Broken Matt' and build upon it. I need a canvas where I can paint and collaborate."

Hardy stated as well that moving forward, he wants to bring the surprise factor back to his work and gimmicks in the ring.

He said: "I'm a wrestling fan, and when I'm watching, I love to be surprised. That's the beauty of this industry. And as a performer, if you can do that in 2020, that's when you truly master your craft. That's what I'm working to do.

"If you're with WWE, you're with WWE. Triple H is very much a part of the pulse of the modern fan. I'm a big fan of what he's done with NXT, and Triple H really gets and understands wrestling fans. His vision is incredible. But there is also the possibility of working for a couple companies."
