Manchester United were brilliant in the first half of their Premier League clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford.The Red Devils had numerous chances in the opening 20 minutes, with Anthony Martial and Daniel James both going close.And they finally took the lead through a brilliant free-kick from Bruno Fernandes.The Portuguese midfielder's chipped through ball found Martial, who volleyed past Ederson.They could well have had a penalty late on in the opening 45 minutes, too.Fred went down in the box after being kicked by Nicolas Otamendi.Mike Dean didn't think it was a penalty, though, as he brandished Fred a yellow card for diving.
Fred was angry at the decision and he appeared to have a right to be as replays showed clear contact.However, despite VAR looking at the incident, it did not rule the incident to be a penalty and play went on.
There is definite contact there. There may be an argument that Fred went down when he knew that he was going to lose the ball.
But there was definite contact and you see them given more often than not. For Fred to get booked for the incident is just extremely harsh.
Man City were very lucky to be 1-0 down at the break.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side weren't made to rue that moment of misfortune, though, as Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the second half to give United a 2-0 victory.
United have moved back up to fifth, three points behind Chelsea. Man City remain in second, 25 points behind Liverpool.
