Manchester United continued their push for a Champions League spot with a brilliant 2-0 victory against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.United were the better team in the first-half and deservedly took the lead in the 30th minute.Bruno Fernandes' delightful quick free-kick was latched on to by Anthony Martial, who volleyed past Ederson.City had much of the ball in the second 45 minutes but struggled to find an equaliser.And they were condemned to defeat when Scott McTominay profited from an Ederson mistake to score from 35 yards.The whole of Old Trafford celebrated that winning goal like they had won the Premier League title.In a season which once looked bleak for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, they have turned it around in recent weeks and are now have a return to the Champions League well within their reach.Two men that could not contain their emotion were Fernandes and Martial.
Both had been subbed off in the closing stages as Solskjaer looked to put on defensive players and try and hold on to the win.And they both celebrated wildly by themselves when the win was ensured, before giving each other a warm embrace.That's the start of a bromance at United - that's for sure.Just moments before, they were captured by TV cameras speaking and laughing.
Martial hardly smiled in the first few years to start his United career. He hasn't stopped smiling since Fernandes was signed in January.
They then posted the same image of them celebrating together on Instagram.
"Manchester is red. Finally you scored with my assist @martial_9", Fernandes wrote.
And Martial returned the favour by dedicating his Instagram post to Fernandes, writing: "My bro thanks for the assist @brunofernandes.10".
The two clearly get on very well off the pitch and that's shown by the chemistry they have on it.
Solskjaer confirmed that Fernandes and Martial have gotten on well in there short time together.
“Anthony [Martial] and Bruno [Fernandes] have hit if off. It is a privilege to be a manager of a squad with this attitude," he said, per the Daily Star. "You can't ask for more. They are going to improve as players as well.
"Those little things will come but it is a privilege and they want to listen to advice. For our players to beat a team like Manchester City is fantastic, I am delighted for them."
With United three points behind Chelsea in the race for the top four and still in the Europa League, Fernandes and Martial's link-up play will be the key to making it back into the Champions League.
