Nottingham Forest majority owner Evangelos Marinakis has revealed on his official Instagram page that he has contracted coronavirus.

The Greek businessman revealed via a statement on the social media app “the recent virus has visited me”.

“The recent virus has ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know,” Marinakis posted. “I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors instructions. I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same. I wish all a quick recovery.”

In rather concerning news, Marinakis was at the City Ground last Friday night for Forest’s Championship defeat to Millwall.

Twenty-seven thousand fans were in attendance for that match, per talkSPORT.

It has also been revealed, per journalist Daniel Storey, that Marinakis met the Nottingham Forest squad on Friday.

Forest are set to play Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this weekend, but it’s unclear how these latest developments will affect that fixture.

Marinakis is also the owner of Greek side Olympiacos and their Europa League clash against Wolves this week is now in doubt, according to the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law.

He adds: “Told Wolves match on Thursday could be in the balance after Olympiacos (and N Forest) owner Evangelos Marinakis revealed he has coronavirus. The entire team and staff are going to hospital to be tested to see if they have got it. Olympiacos expected to make a statement later.”

Law adds that ‘Marinakis shook hands with the entire Nottingham Forest squad on Friday night.’

Olympiacos v Wolves was already scheduled to take place behind closed doors because of the coronavirus outbreak.

A number of other matches in various competitions around the world will also take place without fans over the coming weeks, while Serie A has been completely suspended as Italy goes into lockdown.

On Tuesday afternoon, meanwhile, Forest released the following statement on their website: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that owner Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Mr Marinakis was diagnosed after showing the first symptoms on his return to Greece yesterday afternoon. During his short stay in Nottingham last week he did not show any symptoms of the virus.

“The club are seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken.

“Until this time the club will be making no further comment.”
