Holy hand grenades at the ready, Worms is returning to our screens in 2020 and the developer is teasing major changes.
In what will be the classic series' 25th anniversary year, Team 17 has released a teaser trailer for a new game which will be the first new entry since 2016.
The British developer took to Twitter to announce a return for the classic turn-based strategy game and hinted that some major changes could be coming for the wriggly warriors.
Although the trailer doesn't give much away in terms what the new title will look like in terms of gameplay or graphics, it does provide a nostalgic nod to older titles.
The trailer features footage of the classic format playing on a TV which is then obliterated by a 3D worm, perhaps foreshadowing a move away from two dimensions once again.
The first time that Worms moved into 3D in 2003 proved to be fairly controversial with only four entries produced before the developers moved the series back to its 2D roots in 2006.
The official Worms Twitter account possibly hold a few more clues for what is to come with the line: "Things are getting real in 2020".
Could it be that the series is making its first foray into virtual reality?
Worms is often cited as a series that sticks to its reliable formula without adding enough to justify a new entry, so it will be interesting to see what Team 17 bring to the table with this re-launch.
Whatever the changes are, we're sure to find out more soon with the game due to land sometime this year.
