Aston Villa will consider ending Danny Drinkwater's loan deal after he was involved in a violent altercation with Jota in training.

According to the Daily Mail, the midfielder headbutted his teammate on Tuesday during an angry exchange.

The incident leaves Drinkwater's deal in 'serious jeopardy' with Villa chiefs said to be giving 'serious consideration' to cutting his loan spell short.

Talks regarding his future have already taken place, but it's not yet been confirmed if he will be sent back to Chelsea.

He will also likely face disciplinary action and a heavy fine from the struggling Premier League club.

This is the latest controversy in what has been a rocky few years for Drinkwater.

After joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2017, the midfielder failed to establish himself as a first-team regular, making just 12 league appearances in two seasons.

He played just once in all competitions under Maurizio Sarri during the 2018/19 campaign before joining Burnley on loan in August last year.

Things didn't get much better during his short spell at the Lancashire club. Drinkwater played just twice and was allegedly involved in a drunk, violent altercation outside a nightclub in August.

The 30-year-old was sidelined for two weeks after being attacked by a gang outside the Manchester venue before he was sent back to Chelsea in January.

Now it looks like his latest loan spell could be cut short after making just four Premier League appearances for Villa.

What a terrible two years it's been for Drinkwater.

Let's not forget, he was a key part of Leicester's unlikely title-winning side in 2015/16 and also won the FA Cup with Chelsea in 2018.

But after this latest altercation with Jota, it seems his career at the top level is all but over.
