Last night on WWE Backstage, some major news was revealed regarding a potential new signing for the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.
Ryan Satin exclusively revealed that NFL legend and now FOX Sports analyst Rob Gronkowski was in talks to sign a deal with WWE.
The contents of the deal were not revealed, nor were the kind of contract he would be signing - as a wrestler or simply on-air personality - but Satin said it was close to being done.
Gronkowski of course made an appearance at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, assisting his good friend Mojo Rawley in winning the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, as he stepped into the ring to send Jinder Mahal flying.
Back in August 2019, Gronk stated that he could see wrestling as a 'one-time thing', stating to ESPN: There is one thing I'm down for, and that's to do one crazy match - like in a Royal Rumble - go out there, I got my friend in WWE [Rawley], practice it and do a full-on WWE match."
Gronk did say that any wrestling would be around five years down the line - but it looks like that it's going to come even sooner.
Mike Johnson of PW Insider has confirmed that Gronkowski has indeed signed with WWE as an active wrestler, and he's set to make his first contracted appearance on Friday Night SmackDown in New Orleans on March 20.
And according to The Wrap, Gronk is set to play a part at WrestleMania 36 on April 5, providing it still goes ahead and does not get postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Whilst the former New England Patriots tight end won't be competing on the Grandest Stage of Them All, it's thought that his appearance will set up his debut match further down the line.
It could end up being a while before we see Gronk competing, as it does take a while to nail down the basics of wrestling, but he's Vince McMahon's dream.
Athletic, tall and he's a wild character with a lot of charisma, and who knows - we could end up seeing him main event WrestleMania against Roman Reigns in a few years!
