Coronavirus has been unfortunately spreading across the world, and earlier today it was officially labelled a ‘pandemic’ by the World Health Organization.
WWE released a statement last week, telling the fans that nothing had changed in regards to wrestling’s biggest event – WrestleMania – going ahead on April 5.
However things have changed since then, with several huge gatherings such as E3 and Coachella later in the year officially cancelled.
And news has come out that the Mayor of Tampa will be meeting with officials of the city tomorrow to discuss whether or not big events can go ahead as planned – and that will obviously include WrestleMania.
The reliable WrestleVotes stated earlier today that WWE were not sure if WrestleMania could or couldn’t go ahead, but a further update not too long ago has sent fans around the world into a bit of a panic.
The account has said that it’s ‘not looking good at the moment’, and they may have to look to reschedule the event for a later date.
And in addition to this, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has been in contact with ‘several wrestlers’, who now do not believe that WrestleMania is going to take place as scheduled this year.
Said wrestlers haven’t heard anything official at this stage, but it does seem to be very likely that April 5 may not be the date for WrestleMania 36, even though the City of Tampa’s Twitter account still says that nothing has changed – yet.
Vince McMahon will probably be very upset if his hand is forced, however the general health of the public is the main priority in this situation.
There’s seemingly no end in sight for the spread of COVID-19 though, although measures are being taken across the globe to try and limit it.
And unfortunately, losing big events like WrestleMania may be what it takes for that to happen, especially in the United States where cases are growing on a daily basis.
