Juventus have confirmed that Daniele Rugani has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

"Juventus Football Club is now activating all the isolation procedures required by law," the club said in a statement.

The Italy international represents the most high-profile player to have officially contracted the virus, which has today been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

Serie A has already been suspended and countless games across Europe have been played behind closed doors or cancelled altogether in midweek.

Football is having to come to terms with the crisis as it has worsened in recent weeks.

Questions will now inevitably be asked about what this means for his teammates, the Juventus staff, and others he is likely to have come into contact with.

It's for this reason that Serie A were right to call off games as part of Italy's total lockdown as a preventative measure.

Our thoughts are with Rugani during his recovery.
