It was a tale of two 'keepers at Anfield as Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool 3-2 after extra time. The holders' hopes of retaining their Champions League title are over thanks to a two-legged Diego Simeone masterclass. The Rojiblancos had a helping hand from Adrian, who needlessly gave away a crucial goal to Marcos Llorente. At the other end of the pitch, Jan Oblak had no such problems. The fact that the Slovenian conceded two goals - one to Gini Wijnaldum and a rare home strike for Roberto Firmino - take nothing away from his display. The Slovenian once again showed why he's considered by so many to be the best goalkeeper in the world by making a total of nine saves - more than any other stopper has had to make in the knockout rounds so far. The 27-year-old was also called upon more than any other stopper in the Champions League at Anfield all season. BT Sport have provided a clip of some of his highlights and it might make the English champions-elect see the game in a different light. It was a night not simply of their own failings, but of bloody-minded brilliance from their opponents.

In Oblak's performance lay a painful reminder for Liverpool of what might have been had they had their first choice number one available.

Adrian's errors have now played a role in knocking them out of two competitions inside a week following his calamitous mistake against Chelsea in the FA Cup.

A Premier League title will soften the blow in the coming weeks, but Jurgen Klopp's side will ultimately look back and wonder whether they could have progressed had they been at full strength.

Atleti, on the other hand, have no such regrets. As tempting as it is to herald Simeone's approach, his team would not be in the hat for the quarter-finals without Oblak's heroics.
