La Liga has been suspended for the next two rounds of fixtures due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
It follows the recent announcement that Italy's Serie A will be suspended until April.
Real Madrid's players have been quarantined after a player from their basketball side tested positive for coronavirus.
A statement from La Liga read: "Given the circumstances learned this morning, referring to the quarantine of established at Real Madrid and the possible positive tests of players from other clubs, La Liga feels that the scenario has called for the next phase of action in preventative measures against Covid-19.
"Consequently, in accordance with the measures established in the Royal Decree 664/1997 of May 12, La Liga has agreed to suspend at least the next two matchdays.
"Said decision will be reevaluated after the completion of the quarantines decreed at the affected clubs and other possible situations that may arise.
"La Liga, as organiser of the competition, has already communicated its plans to the RFEF, the CSD and the clubs."
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have confirmed that their staff and players are in quarantine after a basketball player tested positive for the virus.
A statement from the club, currently second in La Liga behind Barcelona, read: "Real Madrid C. F. announces that a member of our basketball first team has tested positive for coronavirus.
“The recommendation of remaining in quarantine has been followed with immediate effect, with this measure applied to both the basketball and football first teams, given that the two squads share the facilities at Real Madrid City.
“In addition, a decision has been made to close our training ground and it is recommended that all Real Madrid staff who work at Real Madrid City remain in quarantine.
“The EuroLeague basketball match and the LaLiga football fixture scheduled for today and tomorrow will not be played.”
