Juventus defender Daniele Rugani became one of the highest-profile footballers to test positive for coronavirus on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Italian wrote on Twitter: "You will have read the news and that's why I want to reassure all those who are worrying about me, I'm fine. I urge everyone to respect the rules, because this virus makes no distinctions!
“Let's do it for ourselves, for our loved ones and for those around us."
Although Rugani is currently not showing signs of any COVID-19 symptoms, Juventus have suspended ‘all competitive activities’ at the club.
He was on the bench for Juve’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan last Sunday - a fixture that was played behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium.
Inside the dressing after the match, however, Rugani was photographed celebrating with his teammates - including the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Matthijs de Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Juventus - per The New York Times - have confirmed that Rugani’s diagnosis will mean a 14-day quarantine for him and his teammates. Juve coaches and assorted staff members will also need to self-isolate for the next two weeks.
Ronaldo, per the Daily Mail, is currently back home in Madeira and will quarantine there.
He will not return to Turin for the time being.
This news has also, unsurprisingly, made the front pages of Portuguese newspapers, including A Bola.
Ronaldo had already planned to return to Portugal to visit his mother, who recently suffered from a stroke.
He must now stay put in Madeira rather than flying back to northern Italy, one of the worst-hit regions in Europe.
All sporting events in Italy are currently cancelled until April 3 at the earliest, although Juventus are scheduled to face Lyon in the Champions League next Tuesday.
This fixture, however, will almost certainly be postponed by UEFA now.
