Emmanuel Adebayor has been quite the journeyman of football in recent years. After his successful spell with Tottenham between 2011 and 2015, the Togolese striker has spent time with Crystal Palace, Istanbul Basaksehir and Kayserispor. In February, Adebayor ended his adventure out in Turkey to sign for the tenth professional team of his career - Club Olimpia out in Paraguay. The 36-year-old has not taken South American football by storm yet, failing to score or assist in his opening four games for the club in the league and Copa Libertadores. But Adebayor's profligacy in front of goal doesn't mean he hasn't already made the headlines out in Paraguay. Last night, the former Arsenal striker was shown a straight red card for one of the most reckless tackles you will see in 2020.The often controversial forward launched himself at a Defensa y Justicia defender to try and win the ball, but ended up catching the poor bloke right on the jaw.

ADEBAYOR'S RECKLESS TACKLE

Unsurprisingly, Adebayor was given his marching orders by the referee, but he actually tried to plead his case.

He may have been going for the ball - as is often the case with these tackles - but he put his opponent's health under serious threat. There's no argument, it was a red card.

Adebayor did take to Twitter to apologise, writing: "SEA, tough game today! What a great team spirit, and what a win boys @elclubolimpia. Sad to leave the pitch early on a Jackie Chan challenge. It was never my intention to hurt my opponent, And I am glad he is okay."

At least he acknowledged his offence in the aftermath!

Club Olimpia still managed to secure victory despite Adebayor's red card, taking a 2-0 lead eight minutes after the offence through Brian Benitez.

An injury-time goal from Defensa y Justicia's Marcelo Benitez was not enough to prevent Olimpia securing an important 2-1 win in the their Copa Libertadores group.
