Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy has been put into precautionary self-isolation after one of his family members was tested for coronavirus.
Paramedics arrived at his home in Cheshire this evening after the family member displayed coronavirus-style symptoms and the Frenchman will now follow the medical protocol ahead of receiving the test results.
A City spokesperson said, per Daily Mail: "The club can confirm that a family member of a men's team player is in hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness.
"The individual has undergone tests at hospital, one of which is for Covid-19. Until the results are known, the player in question is self-isolating as a precaution."
Let's pray that the test results come back negative.
It's the latest coronavirus scare in the Premier League after Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed earlier today that three of his players were in isolation after having symptoms associated with the novel coronavirus.
Despite Boris Johnson stating that sporting events in England will be continuing, it seems only a matter of time before they are cancelled.
However, the Prime Minister did state that the prospect of suspending games has now been considered by the government.
"We are considering banning major public events like sporting fixtures," Johnson told the media. "The scientific advice is this has little effect on the spread - but it does place a burden on other public services."
Man City's Champions League tie with Real Madrid next week has already been postponed by UEFA, with all football in Spain now suspended for two weeks.
Los Blancos' squad are also in isolation after a member of Real Madrid's basketball team tested positive for COVID-19 - the two teams share the same training ground.
The prospect of the entire footballing season being brought to a halt is getting more realistic with each passing day.
What that would mean for Euro 2020 will likely be revealed at UEFA's meeting next Tuesday.
