Anthony Joshua warns the current WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to ‘be careful what he wishes for’ ahead of a possible bout between the pair later this year.

Speaking outside Finchley ABC boxing club, where it all began for the Brit, Joshua said:

“He’s had two good fights against Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015 and Deontay Wilder last month and he has managed to win them both so he’s on a high right now.

Joshua continued: “The younger gunners are coming up and will definitely take that Tyson Fury challenge with both hands.”

This latest response from the current IBF, WBO and WBA champion comes after Fury had claimed in an interview on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ that AJ could not call himself a champion until he beat the ‘Gypsy King.’

Fury had to give up the belts that Joshua currently holds back in 2016 after he suffered from serving mental health problems, however, Fury has since made a remarkable turn around by defeating Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas last month.

This is the latest in the war of words between two of the biggest names in the boxing world and just adds to the anticipation of the prospect of them battling it out to be the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion.

Both fighters still, however, have to overcome hurdles to get there, with Joshua due to face the Bulgarian boxer Kubrat Pulev on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When asked about his upcoming bout AJ said:

“I’m back in London, back on my home turf. I’m fighting against a formidable opponent, someone I have to defeat. If there’s no victory over Pulev then there’s no undisputed, so Pulev is my main focus.”

Fury meanwhile has the prospect of a third fight with the man he beat for the WBC belt, Wilder, however, if both Brits overcome their respective opponents the dream bout will certainly be on the cards.

When asked about the potential of the all British Undisputed title fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said:

“To have two British World Heavyweight Champions fighting for the Undisputed title is something that may never happen in our lifetime again.

“Our conversations were to look at the Fury fight for November or December of this year or the summer of next year.”
