This news comes nearly three years after The Notorious made his debut in the sport in the big-money bout with Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 in Las Vegas.

The contest between the boxing debutant and the five-division champion became a one-sided affair after a bright start by McGregor, but Money broke him down and claimed victory in the tenth round.

A Pay-Per-View classic that generated huge business, acquiring the second-highest buyrate in combat sports history.

McGregor has been incredibly vocal about a return to the sport in the ever-so-near future, and this is despite returning to the octagon in January where he took apart Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in just 40 seconds at UFC 246.

The Notorious has been linked with a re-match with Mayweather and a dream match clash with Manny Pacquiao.

“I’d honestly be surprised if Conor doesn’t have a boxing match in the next 12-18 months,” his trainer Kavanagh said to Gareth Davies.

“He loves boxing, he loved the training for the Mayweather fight. It has to be something big, whatever he does seems to always get bigger.

He’s always looking for that next step up.

A rematch with ‘Money’ is looking ever so the more likely, after criticising Mayweather and insisting that the boxing icon “tricked him” in their bout in 2017, adopting a more offensive than the defensive style the boxer is widely known for.

McGregor’s training camp was focused entirely on combatting that synonymous defensive style of Mayweather.

But when the American came out extremely forward and combative, this caught the Irishman off-guard which caused him to tire very easily and helped wear him down very early on in the fight.
