Premier League crisis: 51% of fans believe the 2019/20 season should be scrapped

There is one question currently dominating the sporting narrative in England right now.

With the 2019/20 Premier League season currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans are pondering: Should the season be scrapped entirely?

If it were to be declared ‘null and void’, Liverpool would miss out on securing their first ever Premier League title and first league crown since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently 25 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the league, but they have not mathematically secured the title just yet.

It would be a devastating blow to the Reds but right now, it’s a possible outcome. We here at GIVEMESPORT decided to ask our fans whether the 2019/20 season should be scrapped altogether.

The results from our poll came back with razor-thin margins, but 51% of fans believe the current Premier League campaign should be scrapped – sorry, Liverpool.

However, the prospect of simply cancelling the season completely presents a whole litany of problems, with Liverpool’s title win just the tip of the iceberg.

What would happen to the clubs currently occupying the relegation places? Would Leeds and West From be promoted to the Premier League from the Championship? It really is a minefield.

The most logical solution would be to restart the season when it’s medically safe to do so, meaning clubs would receive ‘delayed income’ rather than missing out on financial match-day gain altogether.

While that does damage the integrity of the league, it feels as if it’s the only way to overcome a truly unprecedented situation.

We will likely know more come Tuesday evening after UEFA’s conference call, with Euro 2020 set to be postponed and a final decision on the current Champions League campaign to be made.
