The 2019-20 Premier League season has been suspended and there’s a chance it will never be completed.
An emergency meeting will take place next Thursday as football chiefs decide what happens next.
A senior club source has told Sky Sports there is a 75 per cent chance that the Premier League campaign will not be completed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And if this happens, it will lead to all sorts of questions: including what happens with the title, promotion, relegation, European places and so on.
It would also have a bearing on which player wins the PFA Premier League Player of the Year award - if, indeed, the prestigious individual accolade is still handed out.
Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson are currently the joint-favourites to win the award, followed by their teammate Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
But who are the Premier League’s top 20 players of the season according to WhoScored.com’s ratings?
Let’s take a look…
20. Willian | Chelsea | Rating: 7.25
Willian broke into the top 20 after receiving a 9.29 rating in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Everton last weekend.
The Brazilian winger has scored five goals and registered the same number of assists in 28 appearances.
19. Jamie Vardy | Leicester City | Rating: 7.25
The Premier League’s top scorer this season, it’s a little surprising to see Jamie Vardy this low down.
As well as 19 goals, the Leicester City striker has also chipped in with another four assists.
18. John McGinn | Aston Villa | Rating: 7.26
If the season is cancelled, then 19th-placed Aston Villa would be in danger of being relegated to the Championship.
But one of their players, John McGinn, has made an impact in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and setting up two more for his teammates in 18 appearances.
The Scottish midfielder has been out of action since December and Villa have certainly missed him in recent months.
17. Roberto Firmino | Liverpool | Rating: 7.26
Eight goals and seven assists in 29 games is a decent if unspectacular return from Roberto Firmino - but it’s important to note that he brings so much more to Liverpool than goals and assists.
The Brazilian forward is a key player for the Reds and his performances this season justify his 7.26 rating.
16. Son Heung-Min | Tottenham | Rating: 7.28
Jose Mourinho probably isn’t too disappointed that the season has been suspended. The Tottenham boss has missed the injured Son Heung-Min (along with Harry Kane) badly over the past couple of weeks.
Son has nine goals and seven assists in the league this season.
15. Raul Jimenez | Wolves | Rating: 7.29
Unlike Mourinho, Raul Jimenez will be cursing the fact the season has been suspended.
The Wolves forward has been in fantastic form this term and has had a direct impact in 19 league goals this season (13 goals, six assists).
14. Trent Alexander-Arnold | Liverpool | Rating: 7.30
In our opinion (and we’re sure every Liverpool fan will agree), 7.30 is too low a rating for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been fantastic all season for the Reds.
Only De Bruyne has provided more assists (16 compared to 12) in the Premier League this season. He’s also chipped in with two goals.
13. Harry Kane | Tottenham | Rating: 7.30
Here’s someone else who might be secretly pleased that the Premier League has been suspended.
The break allows Harry Kane to get himself fit if - and it’s obviously a massive if - either the Premier League resumes or the European Championships are held this summer.
Kane has scored 11 league goals in 20 games for Spurs this season.
12. Richarlison | Everton | Rating: 7.32
Everton’s highest-rated player this season, according to WhoScored, Richarlison has 10 goals and three assists in 27 league appearances.
The Brazilian has also won five Man of the Match awards this season. Only five other players have won more.
11. Jack Grealish | Aston Villa | Rating: 7.33
Whether Aston Villa are relegated or not, Jack Grealish should seal a move to a top club this summer.
Manchester United are believed to be at the front of the queue for the attacking midfielder, who has netted seven goals and set up six more this term.
10. Marcus Rashford | Man Utd | Rating: 7.34
Marcus Rashford was flying for Man Utd before suffering a back injury in January.
The 22-year-old was enjoying the best season of his career so far. In 22 Premier League games, Rashford has scored 14 goals and registered a further four assists.
9. James Maddison | Leicester City | Rating: 7.34
James Maddison was superb at the start of the season, but his performances have gone a little off the boil in recent months.
The midfielder had failed to register a single goal or assist in his previous eight league appearances - but, overall, the England international has still enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Foxes.
8. Wilfred Ndidi | Leicester City | Rating: 7.36
Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi has impressed most football fans thanks to his performances with Leicester this season.
The 23-year-old is now widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.
7. Virgil van Dijk | Liverpool | Rating: 7.40
We ran out of superlatives for Liverpool’s talismanic defender a while back. What a player Virgil van Dijk is.
Aside from his commanding performances at the heart of the Reds’ defence, Van Dijk has also chipped in with an impressive four goals and one assist in 29 league appearances.
6. Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | Rating: 7.45
Mohamed Salah will be gutted if the Premier League season stops now because that means he will have missed out on the chance to seal a record-breaking third successive Golden Boot award.
Liverpool’s Egyptian king is currently on 16 goals for the season (he also has six assists, by the way), which puts him level with Sergio Aguero and just behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (17 goals) and Vardy (19).
5. Sadio Mane | Liverpool | Rating: 7.50
Mane gets better and better every season and is now, without doubt, one of the world’s finest attacking forwards.
In 26 league games this season, the Liverpool star has scored 14 goals and provided seven assists.
4. Ricardo Pereira | Leicester City | Rating: 7.50
Ricardo Pereira has enjoyed an excellent season - but does he really deserve the same rating as Mane? We’re not sure about that.
In 28 matches, the attack-minded right-back has scored three goals and assisted another two.
3. Riyad Mahrez | Man City | Rating: 7.59
Riyad Mahrez has only started 15 Premier League games for Man City this season but has seven goals and eight assists to his name. That’s some going.
He would be one of the first names on the teamsheet for most Premier League clubs.
2. Adama Traore | Wolves | Rating: 7.59
On his day, Adama Traore is one of the most exciting footballers to watch in the world.
Strong as an ox, lightning-quick and skillful, the 24-year-old has enhanced his reputation this season with a series of excellent performances for Wolves.
1. Kevin De Bruyne | Man City | Rating: 7.92
But in first place - and by quite some distance, too - it’s Kevin De Bruyne.
Eight goals, 16 assists and seven Man of the Match performances this season means that he’s the Premier League’s standout performer in the eyes of WhoScored.
The best midfielder in the world right now? He’s certainly right up there.
