The coronavirus pandemic has forced the suspension of football across Europe and there is uncertainty as to when the beautiful game will resume in the continent.

The top two Spanish divisions were postponed for two rounds of fixtures, football in Italy was called off up to at least April 3 and elite football in Britain is now suspended until the same date.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were well-placed to be crowned champions of England and France respectively, while exciting title races were ensuing in Europe's other top leagues.

Barcelona have a two-point lead over Real Madrid, only four points separate Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in Germany, and Lazio are just a point behind Juventus.

So, with Europe's top five leagues currently suspended due to spread of coronavirus, which players have been the best in each division during the 2019-20 season so far?  Let's take a look.

Ligue 1 - Neymar (8.58/10)

According to the detailed football statistics website WhoScored, Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar is the standout player in Ligue 1 so far this campaign.

Despite only playing 15 league matches, the 28-year-old has scored 13 goals, assisted six more and completed more dribbles (90) than anyone else in the entire division.

Serie A - Josip Ilicic (7.95/10)

Josip Ilicic has been a solid performer in Italy since 2010, however, at the age of 32, the versatile forward has lit up Serie A this term and is enjoying the season of his life.

The Slovenian has registered 15 goals and five assists in 19 starts for Atalanta, who reached the Champions League quarter-finals, and he's produced four perfect 10/10 displays.

Bundesliga - Robert Lewandowski (8.16/10)

Robert Lewandowski has surely solidified his status as the best number nine in world football after another stunning campaign with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The deadly 31-year-old tops the German scoring charts on 25 goals (from just 23 games) and became the first player in the league's history to score in each of the opening 11 matches.

La Liga - Leo Messi (8.61/10)

No real surprise with this one, but record six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has continued to star in La Liga despite not featuring until September 17 due to a calf injury.

The Barcelona icon's all-round excellence is signalled by the fact he's both scored more goals (19) and recorded more assists (12) than any other player in the Spanish top-flight in 2019-20.

Premier League - Kevin de Bruyne (7.92/10)

After terrible injury problems in 2018-19, Kevin de Bruyne has put in world-class performances on a consistent basis to, per WhoScored, reclaim his throne as the Premier League's top star.

The classy Belgian creates chances for fun, he's hit eight league goals for Manchester City and provided a whopping 16 assists - the most of any Premier League player.

In terms of their WhoScored ratings, Leo Messi comes out on top amongst the five players with an average score of 8.61, pipping Neymar (8.58) in second and Lewandowski (8.16) in third.
