Netball was one of the last sports standing this weekend after organisers of the Vitality Netball Superleague chose to proceed with round four matches.
After many other sports, from the FA Women's Super League to the London Marathon, the organisers announced that they would continue with the weekend's fixtures.
In a subsequent statement, they announced that today's clash between Loughborough Lightning and Saracens Mavericks would be played behind closed doors.
On Sunday, however, the Superleague board decided to postpone the league with immediate effect. The move comes as the UK Government is still yet to call for the postponement of sporting events, despite moves by other governments around the world to ban large gatherings.
Decisions on the future of the league's 2020 season will be made this week as the board convenes to assess their options.
The Netball Superleague announced their decision in a statement. They said: "Further to the statement issued on Friday 13th March, the Vitality Netball Superleague Board have continued to monitor the outbreak and growing concerns around the rapid spread of COVID-19. The Board has taken the decision to postpone Vitality Netball Superleague fixtures with immediate effect.
"The Board and all Vitality Netball Superleague clubs will convene again on Tuesday 17th March where the position of the 2020 season, in light of an anticipated update on guidance from the Government, will be considered. A full statement will be issued later next week.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the Netball Family updated as appropriate."
