We’re all desperately hoping that it won’t be too much longer before football is back.

Many leagues have been suspended following the coronavirus pandemic, including all of Europe’s top-five leagues.

The Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 have all been temporarily postponed as governments try to combat the spread of the virus.

But absence makes the heart grow fonder and football will feel even sweeter when it finally returns.

In the meantime, research group CIES Football Observatory have revealed the most valuable squads in the transfer market from Europe’s top-five leagues - and it’s Liverpool who now sit top the pile.

The Reds’ squad is now worth a whopping €1.4 billion (£1.27 billion), which puts them ahead of every other club on the continent.

The CIES use a number of variables, per BBC Sport, to calculate a player’s value. These include the age of the player, performances, economic value of their club and inflation.

Let’s take a look at the top 25…

25. Sevilla | Value: €399 million

Currently third in La Liga, Sevilla are valued just shy of €400 million despite boasting few star names. Lucas Ocampos and Diego Carlos are among their most expensive players.

24. Wolves | Value: €449 million

Wolves are enjoying an excellent season in both the Premier League and Europa League. The likes of Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore are all top footballers.

23. AC Milan | Value: €461 million

AC Milan used to boast one of Europe’s most star-studded squads around 15 years ago, but that’s no longer the case today. Still, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alessio Romagnoli and Ante Rebic are among their big-name players.

22. Bayer Leverkusen | Value: €494 million

Bayer Leverkusen, currently fifth in the Bundesliga, have the highly-rated (and hugely valuable) Kai Havertz in their ranks, which has helped to push the club’s valuable close to the €500 million mark.

21. Valencia | Value: €527 million

Seventh in La Liga, as things stand, Valencia’s squad features several talented young players including Ferran Torres, Jose Gaya and Carlos Soler.

20. Lyon | Value: €532 million

Breaking into the top 20 is French side Lyon, who find themselves seventh in Ligue 1. Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele are two of their most valuable stars.

19. AS Roma | Value: €540 million

Nicole Zaniolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Justin Kluivert are just three of the more valuable players in AS Roma’s ranks.

18. Everton | Value: €585 million

Everton have some top players in their squad - including Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin - and one of the world’s best managers in the form of Carlo Ancelotti.

17. Napoli | Value: €617 million

Sixth in Serie A, Napoli’s most valuable players include Lorenzo Insigne, Hirving Lozano and, of course, Kalidou Koulibaly.

16. Leicester City | Value: €618 million

Leicester City are third in the Premier League table following an excellent campaign under Brendan Rodgers, whose star players like Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans are all household names.

15. Arsenal | Value: €624 million

Arsenal have some terrific attacking players, so it’s no surprise to see them in the top 15. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli are among the Gunners’ most expensive stars.

14. RB Leipzig | Value: €626 million

RB Leipzig are Bundesliga title contenders if the season resume, thanks in part to their top scorer Timo Werner, who has netted 21 of his side’s 62 league goals this season. The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with Liverpool in recent weeks.

13. Bayern Munich | Value: €716 million

Surprisingly, Bayern Munich do not have the most valuable squad in Germany right now. Still, Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and a few others would all cost an absolute fortune to sign.

12. Borussia Dortmund | Value: €756 million

Sitting one place above Bayern Munich are their domestic rivals, Borussia Dortmund, whose star players include Jadon Sancho and the hugely-talented Erling Haaland.

11. Inter Milan | Value: €773 million

Inter have spent big over the past 12 months on the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen. They also have some top players including Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic.

10. Juventus | Value: €783 million

At 10, we have Juventus, whose star names include Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Matthijs de Ligt.

9. Tottenham | Value: €787 million

Tottenham boast the fifth most valuable squad of any English club, thanks largely to the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-min Son.

8. Atletico Madrid | Value: €836 million

Atletico Madrid recently knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League and have many top-class players such as Jan Oblak (arguably the world’s best goalkeeper right now), Saul Niguez and Joao Felix.

7. Paris Saint-Germain | Value: €979 million

It won’t be long before Paris Saint-Germain’s squad is worth over €1 billion mark. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are two of the world’s most expensive footballers.

6. Manchester United | Value: €1.07 billion

Manchester United’s form has improved in recent weeks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and their squad is currently valued at over €1 billion. Bruno Fernandes has been a fine addition to a squad that already features Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and David de Gea.

5. Chelsea | Value: €1.08 billion

Chelsea’s squad is valued slightly higher than United’s. Their star players include Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham and N’Golo Kante.

4. Real Madrid | Value: €1.1 billion

It’s no surprise to see Real Madrid in the top five. They always have a star-studded squad worth millions. Eden Hazard, Raphael Varane and Vinicius Jr are among their most expensive players.

3. FC Barcelona | Value: €1.17 billion

In third place, we have FC Barcelona, who stars like Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are all worth well over £100 million.

2. Manchester City | Value: €1.36 billion

Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero… it’s no surprise that Manchester City’s squad is valued at an incredible €1.36 million.

1. Liverpool | Value: €1.4 billion

But top of the list, it’s Liverpool, the reigning European champions and the team set to win the Premier League title - if it ever resumes. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all worth mega money thanks to their performances in recent seasons.
