If you've managed to avoid any coronavirus-related bad news today, then I do have to apologise in advance.

The global pandemic has wreaked havoc on just about every sporting discipline and calendar known to man and now, the UFC, the last man standing, the stubborn resistance, the last hope of sport, has become the latest victim.

While UFC chief Dana White has remained resolute in his belief that UFC events will take place, the postponement of all events in the run-up to UFC 249 shows that he has had to bend the proverbial knee to the virus.

However, White knows just how massive the Khabib Nurmagomedov v Tony Ferguson fight could prove to be and is desperate to make sure that it goes ahead, even it means the bout taking place behind closed doors.

Speaking late on Monday, White claimed that UFC 249 is likely to go abroad in a bid to find a suitable venue for the fight to take place amid growing restrictions on sporting events and large gatherings in the United States.

“We’re postponing the next three events, but Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib [Nurmagomedov], April 18 is still on and that will still happen,” White said.

“We’re going to follow these guidelines to not have more than 10 people in a room and we’re hoping this all clears up by April.

“This fight’s going to happen,” he said. “No crowd. Whatever it takes. Probably not even going to be in the United States, but this fight’s going to happen.

“This is what we do,” White said. “We put fights on every weekend. The fighters want to fight. The fans want to see it.

"I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from the fans and the fighters. These guys all want to continue. So we will.”

As the situation continues to escalate almost hourly, it is difficult to see how White could possibly pull this off.

However, as sports fans, we can only hope he does - we need some good news.

One can only watch so many YouTube simulations before going a little bit bonkers.

Make it happen, Dana.
