These really are unprecedented times as the world continues to lock itself down amid the spread of the coronavirus.

The sporting world has been left in tatters as well, with just about every event on the planet being postponed or cancelled altogether in a bid to avoid the virus spreading further.

The Premier League has been postponed until April while the sporting carnival that is the Olympics is looking increasingly doubtful as the summer approaches.

Now, the British Boxing Board of Control has taken very drastic action to ensure the safety of their stakeholders by cancelling every event that was due to be held for the remainder of March.

The BBBoC took the decision to scrap every event under their jurisdiction after the government altered its guidelines surrounding large gatherings of people.

Their statement reads:

“With regard to the statement made by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, all public tournaments [shows] under the jurisdiction of the British Boxing Board of Control are unfortunately cancelled.

“Further consideration of the matter will take place at the beginning of April.

“We have a number of requests for tournaments to be held behind closed doors however, the practicality and logistics will be considered fully following advice from Board Medical Officers.”
